Goshen College announces Fall 2007-08 Dean’s List

They both grew up in Elkhart County just miles apart, were star athletes on competing junior high and high school teams, and graduated from Goshen College the same year. Since then, one spent 23 years in Ireland as a peace scholar and practitioner and the other earned a doctorate at Harvard University and knows 15 languages.
Five Goshen College student speakers will continue the college's near-century-old tradition by participating in the 2008 C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest on Feb. 5 in Umble Center at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Everyone needs a bit of silence and spiritual reflection to renew hope. Goshen College again offers an online spiritual resource to help Christian believers make time and space in their hearts and minds to reflect on the season of Lent.
Goshen College will honor the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. during its 15th annual all-school Martin Luther King Jr. Study Day, emphasizing the values and ideals that characterized the civil rights leader's work, on Monday, Jan. 21. The college has again cancelled all classes during the day, and all these events are open to the public.
Goshen College President James E. Brenneman welcomed students, faculty and staff back to campus for the spring semester with a call to make wise choices when facing key life decisions and recognizing the need for faith and prayer.
All events are open to the public and are free unless otherwise noted.
Their lives have been focused on rehabilitating prisoners, educating educators about the needs of children in poverty, changing the way researchers think about genetics, assisting Iraqi refugees, preaching and serving a family in need. During Goshen College's Homecoming Weekend 2007 on Oct. 5-7 the college will honor six exceptional alumni with awards for lives and dedication to service that has inspired others.
The Amish response to the murders of five schoolgirls in Nickel Mines, Pa., last Oct. 2 was even more surprising than the intrusion of evil into bucolic Lancaster County.
Enrollment, retention and the number of first-year students and minorities continue to rise at Goshen College, college officials said.
