But before they can find their creative niche in the art industry, the years students spend studying in Goshen College’s art program will take them behind the potter’s wheel, behind the welding mask, teaching in a classroom, and mounting their own senior art exhibitions. Program Overview

At Goshen College, you’ll be part of a long tradition of preparing students for successful careers in visual and graphic design or top graduate art programs. Our art program gives you the freedom to explore your creative interests while building the skills needed for a dynamic career. Whether you choose to major or minor in art or graphic design, you can blend your passion for visual expression with other fields of expertise, shaping a path that’s uniquely yours.
Career Paths
The definition of art is constantly expanding. The field of visual arts contains many different subfields, including graphic design, sculpture, painting, photojournalism, architecture, and art administration among others.
Today information is increasingly communicated with images through print media, over the Internet, hanging on walls, or sitting on pedestals. Art and design shape every part of our world, from branding and architecture to education and fine arts. As a Goshen College art student, you’ll develop the skills to turn your passion into a thriving career. Our alumni have found success in a variety of industries, working as:
- Practicing Studio Artists — painters, ceramicists, jewelers, printmakers, sculptors
- Graphic designers, photographers, illustrators and art directors
- Architects and interior designers, fashion designers, and product designers
- Art teachers in K-12 and higher education or art therapists
- Arts administrators, curators, and museum educators

At GC you will receive the individualized attention you need from professors to develop your skills and ideas. You will learn from faculty who produce, exhibit and sell their artwork. You will develop your own ability to communicate effectively in the media that suits you best.
The art department has concentrations in several different areas: graphic design, art entrepreneurship, studio art, visual arts education (K-12), pre-architecture, art administration and pre-architecture.

During your senior year you will plan and produce an exhibit, and develop a portfolio as preparation for your future employment.
Each year, the Eric Yake Kenagy Visiting Artist Program brings internationally known artists to campus for lecture and instruction.
Hone your graphic design skills by designing the layout for the student newspaper, The Record, or by creating event posters for departments and clubs on campus, as well as participating in internships with nearby businesses.
All students also have the opportunity to engage with different cultures as part of our Study Service Term experience.

Scholarships make up a large portion of our financial aid packages, which average almost $26,000 per student (not including work-study or loans).
Full-time junior and senior art or graphic design majors also have the opportunity to apply for two additional scholarships:
