25th Annual Symposium Guest Speaker: Dr. Kevin Gary

 

Kevin Gary: keynote speaker for the 25th Annual Goshen College Academic Symposium (2024)

 

Goshen College students, staff, and the community are invited to the Academic Symposium keynote address at 11:00 a.m. in the church-chapel sanctuary. The keynote will feature Dr. Kevin Gary speaking on “Why You Should Not Trust Boredom.”

Dr. Gary’s talk will explore the pervasive problem of boredom and boredom avoidance as a hindrance to human flourishing. Turning to the Christian intellectual tradition Gary considers ways we can connect to richer moral and spiritual practices. Dr. Gary is a professor at Valparaiso University, where he teaches theology, education, and in the Christ College Honors Program. His book Why Boredom Matters: Education, Leisure, and the Quest for a Meaningful Life was published by Cambridge University Press in 2022. {GC only: link to ebook}
