Goshen College, as an institution, is ranked 2nd (per capita) in Indiana for the number of PhDs among ALL of our graduates. Alumni go on to complete graduate degrees in psychology, law, business, child specialist, medicine, and many other fields.
Our graduates have extremely high graduate school acceptance rates. Graduates have attended Notre Dame, University of Michigan, Miami University, Illinois University, Iowa University and Indiana University, to name just a few. PhDs include psychology degrees in cognitive, experimental, social, developmental, clinical, industrial/organizational, quantitative, school, etc. Graduates have also gone on to earn advanced degrees in business, social work, theology, law and public relations.

The psychology department offers a major and minor in psychology. Our flexible program of study allows you to select from a wide range of courses that fit your interests and goals.
You might explore learning, memory and intelligence in the Cognitive Psychology course; or human development and functioning in such courses as Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology and Personality Theory.

Goshen College emphasizes learning through real-world experience. Experiential learning opportunities include:
- All psychology students design and implement a real research project, including a final research report that is presented at a large student conference
- A senior internship offers a field placement for students to explore career possibilities and practice working at issues in settings outside campus – from probation departments to working with the disabled to exploring youth ministry. A few of the many interesting sites available:
- Goshen City Behavioral Health: A day program working with children with autism, focusing on communication and adaptive skills. This setting exposes you to an area of psychology that is in growing demand, even with a bachelor’s degree.
- School Psychology: in local schools, shadow a school psychologist to witness testing and assessment, team meetings, and practice gathering data in educational settings.
- Ryan’s Place: Co-lead groups for children, teens, and families faced with grief from a variety of circumstances. Learn the complexities of grief and how to walk with people of all ages through the process of loss.
