Clarence and Blanche Burkholder Scholarship Fund

Clarence and Blanche Burkholder moved to Goshen, Indiana, from the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, area in 1957. When living in Lancaster they operated a successful painting and decorating business. When they moved to Goshen, Clarence became director of the physical plant at Goshen College, and Blanche worked part-time for the college and was active in community activities. Clarence held this position until 1966 at which time he took semi-retirement and worked part-time in the general maintenance department until he completely retired in 1986.

Two of their three sons graduated from Goshen College and one taught at the college for 23 years. Four grandchildren are also GC graduates. The Burkholders’ interest in peace, justice and social concerns and the impact Goshen College has had on their family was the motivation behind the Clarence and Blanche Burkholder Scholarship. Clarence arranged for this scholarship fund about a year before his death which took place in December of 1992.
