Velma J. Loewen Organ Endowment Fund

Velma J. Loewen, 1953-2005

As a Goshen College student from Mt. Lake, Minnesota Velma studied organ and piano, graduating in 1975 with a degree in music and music education. She majored in organ with Dr. Phil Clemens and visiting German organist Georges Aubert as her teachers. Under their fine teaching, she gained excellent technique, a broad repertoire and grew appreciably as an accompanist for the college’s choirs, ensembles and individuals.

After graduation Velma did not professionally follow her training in music education.  However, she found herself regularly playing the organ and piano for her church (Mennonite Church of Normal, Ill.) and serving as accompanist for community choral groups.  She also served on numerous music and worship committees at the church.

As a student, Velma benefited greatly from the vibrant organ program at GC. In death as in life, she gave generously to ensure that this program thrives and grows well into the future.
