You’ve Been Phished!
You scanned a QR code phishing test!
Never fear, this was just a test.
Remember these three rules to stay safe with QR codes:
Rule # 1
Always stop, look, and think before you scan a QR code.
Cybercriminals use QR codes to try to scam you into giving away sensitive information, or giving away your username and password.
Rule # 2
Check for red flags that indicate a social engineering attack.
If a QR code doesn’t have any identifiable information as to what it is for, or what company, organization, or entity it represents, be leery of it and don’t scan it.
Rule # 3
Verify suspicious QR codes through different mediums.
Check the Internet to see if there is any supporting information to verify the legitimacy of the QR code.
When in doubt, don’t scan! Report any suspicious QR codes that you find on campus to the ITS Help Desk.
Stay alert — YOU are the last line of defense!
