The schedule is the same for all three days. Registration for all three dates will open on May 1. Registration deadlines are June 1 for the June dates and July 3 for the July date.
Parking is available in the Church-Chapel parking lot. Look for #34 on the campus map.
8:15 – 9 a.m. — NSO Check-In | Church-Chapel, Fellowship Hall
Pick up your NSO folder and name tag and confirm your GC login information. Continental breakfast provided.
9 a.m. — Welcome | Church-Chapel, Fellowship Hall
The Office of Orientation, Transition, and Retention (OTR) will provide an overview of the day and what to expect from attending New Student Orientation.
9:15 a.m. — Writing Assessment (students) | Newcomer, NC 17
Students will respond to a short writing prompt to identify a baseline for the incoming cohort and determine placement for Academic Voice for students taking this class.
9:15 a.m. — Becoming College Ready (parents and families) | Church-Chapel
Parents and families will hear how Goshen College supports student transition through relationships with parents and families.
10 a.m. — Rotating Sessions – Block 1 | Various locations
Students will be divided into three groups and rotate between sessions. Parents & family members can participate in additional sessions.
Advising | Church-Chapel, Gathering Rooms, CC 141-144
Hosted by the Registrar’s Office
Students will begin their advising experience by reviewing their preliminary schedule, meeting some ICC professors, and gaining some understanding of what academic records are needed (AP/IB/dual credits) prior to the start of school.
Successful Transitions | Newcomer, NC 17
Hosted by the Student Success Team
Students will take the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) and learn about the various academic supports offered by Goshen College.
ALEKS Assessment | Union, UN 004 and Newcomer, NC 12
Hosted by the Academic Dean’s Office and the Math Department
New students will complete the online ALEKS mathematics placement assessment to determine the best course(s) for meeting the Quantitative Literacy requirement.
Becoming College Ready | Location TBD
Hosted by the Student Success Team
Parents and family members are invited to continue the Becoming College Ready series, which covers the topics of Understanding Your Bill, Transitioning Away From Home, and Empowering Your Student.
11 a.m. — Rotating Sessions – Block 2 | Various locations
Everyone will transition to Block 2 sessions.
12 Noon — Lunch | Union Dining
Complimentary lunch provided. Students, parents, and family members will have an opportunity to eat lunch together.
1 p.m. — Rotating Sessions | Various Locations
The final rotation will continue after lunch with the Block 3 sessions.
2 – 3:30 — Information Fair | Church-Chapel, Fellowship Hall
Campus departments will be available at the Information Fair to answer questions. Students should review their checklist and make sure they have completed any final tasks before the closing.
