Film Production at Goshen College is a four-year bachelors degree in visual storytelling. Here, you learn every part of filmmaking, from directing and producing to editing and sound design. As a result, you graduate with a portfolio, real experience and national awards.
If your goal is feature films, documentaries or anything in between, this is the place to learn the craft. From day one you work with industry-standard digital cinema equipment in real production environments. Small classes also mean close collaboration with peers and one-on-one mentorship from faculty. Best of all, you don’t wait years for your first real project. Instead, you start making work that competes right away.

A May Term immersive course takes film production students to Los Angeles, the center of the film and television world, to study on-site and see how the industry actually works.
Students also get to produce their own short film with the assistance of professionals in the industry, and industry-level equipment.

FiveCore Media is the college’s professional, Emmy® Award-winning video production company, operating right on campus. In most undergraduate film programs, a real studio and paying clients are things you reach later, through competitive internships or graduate school.
At Goshen, you can join the crew as an undergraduate and build real projects for real clients alongside people who do this for a living. That kind of access is rare for an undergraduate, and it is a large part of what sets the program apart. As a film production major you are eligible for merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid, and more than half of film production students receive a department scholarship, such as the Ainlay, Geigley, Gorsline, Joel Kauffmann, and Kornhaus & Smith scholarships.

The degree prepares you for careers such as film director, producer, cinematographer, film editor, screenwriter, sound designer, and film critic. Goshen graduates work in both independent and commercial film production, in television, and at media companies. The program is ranked #12th in the country by the Broadcast Education Association.
From early on, you can work in FiveCore Media, our professional, Emmy® Award-winning video production company, and volunteer at the River Bend Film Festival, one of Indiana’s oldest and largest. You’ll use industry-standard cameras, editing software, and sound studios in the communications suite, with internships and networking in the industry.
