In Community Interpreting and Translation, students will begin developing the skills needed for interpreting and translating in community contexts, including education, social and public services, conferences, hospitals, and courtrooms, among others. Translation strategies taught include transposition, compensation, borrowing, reformulation and the use of calques. Students will be introduced to consecutive and simultaneous interpretation and sight translation, with a focus on consecutive interpretation. Students will complete short job-shadowing activities and a translation project in collaboration with a community partner.
