Laptop Requirement for Incoming Students
Goshen College requires all incoming students to have access to a laptop that can be used daily in class, in labs, in collaboration spaces, and anywhere else learning activity takes place. Besides being a tool that will help you succeed in college, using your laptop throughout your years at GC will build computer skills and expertise that employers require.
In general, having a Mac or a Windows laptop will work for most majors, but accounting and business majors are required to have a Windows laptop, and visual arts, graphic design, film production, and broadcasting majors are required to have a Mac. Chromebooks don’t meet the GC requirements, because they often are unable to upload software required for coursework.
You are welcome to bring your own laptop as long as it meets or exceeds the minimum requirements (see below for more details). If you don’t have the option to provide your own laptop, you may participate in Goshen College’s Laptop Program for a fee of $200 per semester ($400 annually) Through participation in this program, you will sign an agreement that entitles you to receive a laptop that is owned and managed by the college. If you participate in the Laptop Program for the entire time you are a student and ultimately graduate from Goshen College, the laptop will become your property. In some cases, financial aid will help to cover some or all of the $200 per semester fee. Contact your admissions counselor if this fee presents a financial hardship for you and your family.
