Communication Scholarships

The Communication Department recognizes outstanding students by awarding more than $50,000 in scholarships every year. Through generous endowments the department is able to offer scholarships to dozens of students, with annual awards ranging from $500 to $2,000.

The scholarships include:

  • Ainlay Communication Scholarship: an award given to a senior who excels academically and displays leadership in the department.
  • Geigley Scholarship: for students who excel in broadcast communication or theater.
  • Gorsline Scholarship: awards for students who major in communication, theater or business, maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and demonstrate leadership by their involvement in co-curriculars.
  • Gorsline Excellence Award in Print Journalism: an award given to a high school senior for journalistic achievement. Entries are accepted in three categories (news writing, feature writing and photography) and are judged by a panel of department members and professional journalists. The scholarship is renewable for four years.
  • Gorsline Excellence Award in Radio/TV/Film: an award given to a high school student for creative production or journalistic achievement. Entries are accepted for documentary, fictional or creative production works and are judged by a panel of department members and professional journalists. The scholarship is renewable for four years.
  • Joel Kauffmann Scholarship: award for students who exemplifies a blend of faith and creative imagination in filmmaking, writing, design, humor or other types of communication.
  • Kornhaus Scholarship: award for students who excel in public speaking.
  • Massanari Scholarship: award for students who excel in theater and communication.
  • Oswald Scholarship: award for students who excel in journalism.
  • Smith Scholarship: award for students who excel in radio.
