Four million people are expected to tune in to “A Prairie Home Companion” on Saturday, May 2, which will broadcast live from Goshen College at 5:45 p.m.

Garrison Keillor will return to the Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall stage as part of the Performing Arts Series to present this popular radio show, which airs on more than 500 public radio stations around the world.

Local NPR affiliate WVPE will host a simulcast and after party featuring live video feed of the sold out show, held in a large tent on the lawn adjacent to the Goshen College Music Center. The simulcast will include hors d’oeuvres and a dance party afterwards with the WVPE ‘house band,’ The Elwood Splinters Blues Band. Tickets are just $25 and can be purchased at the Goshen College Welcome Center or online.

The live broadcast will include guest performances by the Goshen College Chamber Choir, GC student and mandolin player Ethan Setiawan, and Lily & Madeleine, a folk pop sister duo from Indianapolis. The show will follow its usual format using skits, comedy, monologues and music.

Keillor is a best-selling author, humorist and captivating speaker who combines poignant storytelling with a dry sense of humor. On his last visit to Goshen College in October 2013, he had this to say:

“I think I maybe did the best show of my life Tuesday night and all thanks to the audience, a thousand Mennonites and their neighbors in a small town in Indiana,” Keillor posted on his Facebook page. “…Mennonites are quiet, peace-loving, kind-hearted people, salt of the earth. If I knew a church where people sang like that, I’d be there every Sunday, sitting right smack in the middle. Thank you, Goshen College.”

THIS SHOW IS SOLD OUT. Tickets for the WVPE simulcast are available online at www.goshen.edu/tickets or through the Goshen College Welcome Center by calling (574) 535-7566, or emailing welcomecenter@goshen.edu.

Seating for those with disabilities is available. Tickets are nonrefundable.

The Goshen College Performing Arts Series debuted on Sept. 21, 1997. Since then, the college has hosted more than 100 concerts by some of the world’s greatest performers as part of the program.
