The Real Group, one of the leading forces in a cappella music today, will perform a special concert sponsored by the Goshen College Performing Arts Series on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall.

With their voices as their sole instruments, The Real Group has created a unique musical expression in the realm between jazz, pop and Nordic European choir music.

This professional vocal ensemble from Sweden has been touring the world for more than 28 years. The combination of perfection and personal touch along with original songs have made them accessible to music enthusiasts in general as well as to the more demanding ear.

The Real Group formed at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, where the members graduated with the highest degree in 1989. Since then they have been asked to perform at prestigious official events such as the Swedish Queen’s birthday and the opening of the FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan.

Their wide repertoire has made it possible for the group to collaborate with symphony orchestras, jazz groups, pop bands and artists such as Barbara Hendricks, ABBA’s Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Toots Thielemans and Sir George Martin.

The Real Group has recorded 17 CDs and has produced its own concert tours and TV programs. They have been artistic directors for an a cappella festival in Seoul, South Korea, and are in the process of developing the online educational site “The Real Group Academy.”

The members are: Emma Nilsdotter, Katarina Henryson, Anders Edenroth, Morten Vinther and Anders Jalkéus.

Tickets are now on sale for $15 general admission, $10 students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.goshen.edu/tickets or through the Goshen College Welcome Center by calling (574) 535-7566, or emailing welcomecenter@goshen.edu. Seating for those with disabilities is available.
