Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College will host a sunset hike and Valentine’s Day dinner on Saturday, Feb. 14, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Farmstead Site. Bring a loved one and enjoy the chance to recover the peace, wildness and mystery of a winter evening.

Hikers should meet at the Farmstead Barn at 5:30 p.m. Dave and Janine Ostergren will lead the hike. Dave is director of the Master’s in Environmental Education program at Merry Lea, a native of Minnesota and a winter enthusiast. Janine’s job involves educational software, but she enjoys the outdoors as well. The hike will be over mowed trails with minimal hills, but some spots could be wet or slippery. Dress warmly. Boots are a good idea.

Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Seating is at tables of eight, but there are a few private spots for twosomes which can be reserved in advance. The main course will be lasagna, and of course no Valentine’s dinner is complete without a choice of decadent desserts. Vegetarian options are available.

The cost is $25 per couple. Couples may pay at the door, but must register by February 11. Space is limited. Email mlevents@goshen.edu or call 260-799-5869 to register. Make sure to leave a phone number where you can be reached in case of inclement weather.
