Become an Elementary School Teacher
Elementary education is a rewarding calling that goes beyond just teaching the curriculum. As an elementary teacher, you mold young minds, fostering creativity and instilling in students the passion for lifelong learning. Our in-person elementary education program includes a variety of classroom-based experiences that allow you to learn the craft from some of the best teachers in the county. Fall Semester
Exceptional Learners: Elementary (2 credits)
Curriculum Studies: Math (2 credits)*
Literacy I: Developmental (3 credits)*
Child Development Practicum (1 credit)*
Spring Semester
Curriculum Studies: Social Studies (2 credits)*
Children’s & Adolescent Literature (2 credits)
Curriculum Studies: Science (2 credits)*
Educational Psychology (2 credits)
Literacy II: Diagnostic (2 credits)
Fall Semester
Transition to Teaching Practicum (6 credits) * : Full days for 12 weeks, plus additional time to complete a professional portfolio
Total 24 credits
Cost
The adult and continuing studies rate for 2024-25 is $510 per credit hour.
Application and Transfer Credits
Goshen College will accept up to three transfer courses in our elementary Transition to Teaching program. Your transcripts will be reviewed by the program director to determine what courses, if any, have already been met. Because these courses are aligned with specific state standards and learning outcomes, we cannot grant credit for experience.
Applicants must submit all necessary materials by June 1 to be considered for preliminary admission.
