Student Research
The Department encourages all students to get involved in research projects to develop their scientific skills, test their interests, and work to addressing answers to the world’s complex problems. There are a variety of ways to get involved in research. Learn more.
Internships
Students will find many opportunities to gain valuable experience (paid or volunteer) in and around the Goshen College community. All students are required to complete an internship as part of their program of study. Learn more.
Maple Scholars Program
From exploring stress on honeybees to the relationship between math and music to the stories of stillbirth, each year Goshen College students spend the summer doing intense study and research during the college’s eight-week Maple Scholars program.
During the program, each scholar is paired with a faculty member who serves as both colleague and supervisor. Creating a a community of scholars, the students are all housed together and in the Friday colloquium, scholars take turns presenting the work they are doing and answering questions from other students and faculty. At the end is a celebration day when the results of each project are presented to the public. Learn more.
Faculty Research
The Biological Sciences Department has a long record of providing opportunities for students to get involved in faculty-led research projects. Whether you want to become a medical doctor, a field ecologist with the National Park Service, a development worker in the non-profit sector, or a manager of a medical technology business – research skills will help you achieve these goals. James Miller Memorial Research Endowment
The James Miller Memorial Research Endowment fund was initiated in 2012 to honor the contributions that Dr. Miller made as a biology professor at Goshen College. Dr. Miller’s love of physiology was a gift to his many students. He will be remembered for his commitment to involving students in his research, for mentoring countless future doctors through the process of gaining entrance to medical school, and for his love of humor and life which he used to help hundreds of nurses succeed in Anatomy & Physiology.
