Academy of St. Martin in the Fields

Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, one of world’s greatest chamber orchestras, will be bringing their fresh interpretations of the world’s greatest classical music to Sauder Concert Hall Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.

Formed by Sir Neville Marriner in 1958 from a group of leading London musicians, the Academy gave its first performance in its namesake church in November 1959. Today Music Director and virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell leads the Academy, retaining the hallmark small and flexible, conductor-less ensemble.

Under Bell’s direction, and with the support of Leader/Director Tomo Keller and Principal Guest Conductor Murray Perahia, the Academy continues to push the boundaries of play-directed performance to new heights, presenting symphonic repertoire and chamber music on a grand scale at prestigious venues from New York to Beijing.

Jeremy Denk

This tour marks the celebration of the orchestra’s 60th Anniversary and will feature Jeremy Denk, a MacArthur ‘Genius’ and one of America’s foremost pianists.

In addition to his MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, Denk has won the Avery Fisher Prize and was recently elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Denk returns frequently to Carnegie Hall and in recent seasons has appeared with the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Cleveland Orchestra, as well as on tour with Academy St. Martin in the Fields, and at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms.

Tickets are $50, $45, $35 and can be purchased through the Goshen College Box Office (574-535-7566, boxoffice@goshen.edu) or online at www.goshen.edu/tickets.
