Organist Rhonda Sider Edgington to close out Rieth Chamber Series on May 8

Michigan organist Rhonda Sider Edgington will present the final concert of the 2015-16 Rieth Chamber Series with an organ recital on Rieth Recital Hall’s Taylor & Boody pipe organ on Sunday, May 8, 2016. The performance will begin at 4 p.m.
Edgington’s program will feature organ works ranging from the 16th to the 20th century, including from composers J.S. Bach, Heinrich Scheidemann, Jacob Praetorius, and Dietrich Buxtehude, and including 20th century composers Arvo Pärt, William Albright, Rachel Laurin and Carson Cooman.

Sider Edgington, a creative and eclectic musician, is often commended for her innovative programming, colorful use of registrations and exciting playing. Her seven years spent studying (originally with a Fulbright scholarship) and working as a church musician in Bremen, Germany offered Rhonda the opportunity to specialize in the repertoire and organs of 17th century Germany, while working closely with renowned pedagogue and performer Harald Vogel.
She has played recitals at venues such as St. Thomas Fifth Avenue in New York City, St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh and Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, as well as on historic organs such as the Schnitger in Norden, the Silbermann in Freiberg and the Hildebrandt in Naumburg. She has played at six national conventions of the Organ Historical Society and a regional convention of the American Guild of Organists. She has also been featured on the nationally syndicated radio program “Pipedreams.”
Sider Edgington has taught organ at Concordia University and Houghton College, and now teaches privately. She has studied with Harald Vogel, Hans-Ola Ericsson, Larry Smith, Marilyn Keiser, John Chappell Stowe, Edward Zimmerman, and her father, Ronald Sider. Her degrees are from Indiana University and Wheaton College. Currently dean of the Holland, Michigan chapter of the American Guild of Organists, she also led an educational tour through northern Germany in 2011 for the European chapter of the AGO.
Sider Edgington is the organist and assistant music director at Hope Church, a staff accompanist at Hope College and seminary organist at Western Seminary (all in Holland, Michigan), while also performing regularly in the U.S. and abroad.
The Rieth Chamber Series features seven concerts by outstanding organists and chamber music ensembles, plus a bonus concert with reception for series subscribers only. Music Center Executive Director Marcia Yost explains that series supporters “will provide support for ongoing, accessible classical chamber music at Goshen College, as well as aid in establishing a reputation with performing artists for appreciative Music Center audiences.” More information about this series is online at gcmusiccenter.org/events/rieth-chamber-series/
