Heading home…leaving home…

It’s official.  The Tanzania SST 2014 group has safely launched from the airport in Dar es Salaam heading home. Students spent the day visiting their Dar host families, resting, and doing some last minute shopping. They will arrive in Chicago on Monday April 7th in the early evening after a short stop in Istanbul.

There are so many things to be thankful for after an experience like this, not the least of which is the wonderful spirit with which these students approached the experience.  We too are thankful for the love and warm welcome our entire team has received from the church, host families and larger community that is Tanzania.

May the journey begin today – the life-long journey that is navigating how we handle living on this immense planet together. We are connected in so many ways, dependent on one another in ways we rarely realize. The gift of SST is living into those connections – seeing the grittiness of the way the world is, while simultaneously grabbing the hands of the travelers around us in order to move forward on this journey of hope.

– Signing off for the 2014 SST team, Ryan for Donna, Isaac, & Mara and the 23 students below!

  1. Thanks you so much, Ryan, for sharing the blog and photos of this wonderful experience for our granddaughter, Brianna. We, too, were impressed with how well the students entered into this opportunity and did such a good job. The host families were so gracious in sharing their homes with them. Having lived in Viet Nam in the 1960-70’s it is amazing to me how communication has improved! Thanks again for your care of them during this time.
