Justing Gillette has won 83 marathons and is ranked fifth best in the world.
Still, Gillette has been faced with difficult situations. His sister in-law was dying and Justin had to move to where his sister was so he could be there for her, but sadly she died. Gillette has complained about moving a lot and not being able to stay at home very much. He stayed a long time at his in-law’s. They aren’t marathon runners so they eat beef and steak which he can’t eat. Justin has a problem with eating hard foods and chokes very easily. Justin claimed, “I’ve had about six different occasions where I’ve needed help because I was choking.”
Gillette has still been very successful in his career winning back to back marathons and making big bucks. He ran his first marathon at the age of 16, a month before the year 2000, which was supposed to be “the end of the world” which he later figured out was a lie. Some of his training includes waking up and doing 44 lunges in the morning eats breakfast and takes a nap at 1 pm. He doesn’t let his family hold him back. He gets up at 2 pm and wakes up his 2 year old daughter puts her in her stroller and they go on a 14 mile run. they jog the first 2 miles to get started and then he does 10 miles of altering from one minute of sprinting to one minute of regular jogging and back to sprinting. The last 2 miles he jogs back home. His daughter gets out and he runs 3 miles to his 3 mile race which he runs. After he wins that he runs back home and the total for that day is 23 miles which is almost the same as a marathon.
Gillette learns to cope with the difficulties and proves stronger than them. He finds a way to eat both healthy and soft foods, he also learns how to take care of his daughters and still get his training in. He even finds time to spend with his wife while taking care of family too. When asked about getting back into his routine, Gillette said he gets quality training even through regular stretches and regular running. Gillette said, “Once you get out of routine it’s hard to get back into it.”
