Bill Beck, sports reporter for the Elkhart Truth, came to the Write on Sports camp on July 7th. While Beck was here, he spoke on a few milestones and exciting moments that have happened throughout his career. He has written about some very famous sporting events. Beck was sent to both the Super Bowl in Indianapolis and the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
A while back, he also got the chance to meet and interview Richard Petty. According to Beck, Petty is “arguably the greatest Nascar racer of all time”. When asked about the conversation they had, Beck laughed. “Was it my best interview? No. I was half scared to death!”
One of the greatest honors this star reporter has experienced took place just this year. In March, he was inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame. He described this experience as humbling because “there are so many people in the organization that I admire.”
Though Bill Beck has already had some major events in his life, he is only 55 years old. He certainly can be expected to have a long and successful career ahead of him.
