Safe Arrival in Guatemala City

After leaving Goshen at 4 a.m. this morning, we arrived safely at SEMILLA in Guatemala City around 9 p.m. Guatemala time (two hours behind Indiana time), so our total travel time was about 19 hours, door to door. It was a relief to pull in at the seminary campus and discover they had an excellent Guatemalan meal/breakfast prepared for us — scrambled eggs, black beans, cheese, tortillas and watermelon. We ate heartily.

We’re all settled into our dorm rooms tonight, with most of us on the fourth floor of the seminary dormitory. Tomorrow morning we’ll have breakfast at 7:30, then centering prayer, then orientation to Guatemala at 9:00, then worship with the local Mennonite Church. After church we’ll have lunch and then tour the Miraflores Museum, exchanging money along the way. To end the day, we’ll have a relaxed evening on campus.

It’s good to be securely and comfortable ensconced at Semilla.
