Summer LEAD program

Learn, Engage, Aspire, Develop

The Summer LEAD (Learn, Engage, Aspire, Develop) Program is designed to empower incoming students in their transition to college. This program launches as a three-week summer program and continues throughout the academic journey with the motto:  “Start Together, Finish Together.”

While this program is beneficial to all students, Summer LEAD is designed for first-generation students.

  • Capacity is limited to 24.
  • Students are eligible to register once they have paid their enrollment deposit through the Admissions office.
  • Acceptance into the program is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes on July 1. Students will be notified of their acceptance.

Summer LEAD Logistics

Experience college life and a free college course.

  • Kickoff: Friday, August 1
  • Dates: Friday, August 1 through August 20, when Leaf Launch begins on August 21.
  • Course: Academic Voice- Elevate your writing, research, and speaking skills to achieve greater success in college
  • Accommodations: LEAD students will move directly into their Yoder residence hall room, and commuter students will experience living on campus alongside their peers until August 18. What to bring
  • Trips: Explore Chicago, South Bend Heritage Center

  • Build your confidence by participating in various college life and academic activities before the fall semester begins.
  • Earn 3 college credits in August.

To connect and meet new people and familiarize yourself with the campus

  • Meet other new students and make friends before the fall semester begins.
  • Get to know faculty, staff and peer leaders who will help you succeed at GC.
  • Learn about campus resources and how to navigate the campus before your first day of classes.

To gain access to this free programming designed to enhance your education

  • You read that right. Participating in Summer LEAD programs is free.
  • Workshop and course materials are also provided.
  • All-Inclusive: Accommodations, Meals, Trips, College Course, Evening Activities, etc. You only need to bring money for extra snacks and souvenirs.
