Hosted by campus counselor Char Hochstetler and Student Senate. Guest speaker is Cyneatha Milsap, executive director of Family Services of Elkhart County. This convocation will launch the 2006 Clothesline Project, which calls all people to work together to prevent domestic violence.
In this service, we will traverse the “journey of lament and praise.” At this point in the semester, you may need to cry out to God for a variety of reasons in the context of peer journeyers and worship. A variety of hymns and scripture will help us along the way.
Francisco Aragon is the author of Puerta del Sol (Bilingual Press, 2005) and many poems in anthologies. He is the Director of Letras Latinas, the literature unit at the Institute for Latino Studies at Notre Dame, where he serves as editor of Momotombo Press and coordinates the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize. He is currently editing an anthology of Latino Poetry for University of Arizona Press.

An open mic time will follow this convocation address. Professor Graber Miller’s doctoral dissertation explored the relationship between church and state and was published as a book: Wise as Serpants, Innocent as Doves: American Mennonites Engage Washington [U. of Tennesee Press, 1996].

Campus ministries team will lead this chapel. Bob Yoder, new campus minister, will preach. In addition to Bob, the Team includes Jason Harrison, assistant campus minister, and the following students: Sara Becker-Hoover, Jess Buller, Brad Graber, Sarah Wiersma, Sarah Wilson.
Our new president, Jim Brenneman, will launch the 2006-07 school year in this opening convocation. His official inauguration will be September 10.
