Students study a diverse range of topics this summer with the Maple Scholars program June 25, 2008

    From studying a wetland, to analyzing radiation effects from liver cancer therapy, to conducting a demographics study of the Hispanic population in Elkhart County and surrounding areas, 16 Goshen College students are spending the summer doing intense study and research during the college's eight-week Maple Scholars program.

    The Goshen College Business Department recognized four students for their academic achievements and excellent work in their field at the annual Senior Recognition Dinner at the end of the academic year.

Professor Emeritus of Communication Al Albrecht passes away June 25, 2008

    Goshen College Professor Emeritus of Communication Al Albrecht, 84, passed away on June 23 in the hospital after a lengthy illness. He taught at the college for 23 years, from 1964 to 1987.

Quilt exhibit and mural bring story, visitors to Goshen College June 24, 2008

    Every quilt has a story. This summer, Goshen College hopes to share one of those stories with visitors through the addition of an 81-square foot quilt mural on the bricks of the college's Newcomer Center. The mural, painted by Nappanee native Jeff Stillson, is a replica of a quilt currently on display in an exhibit of Amish and Mennonite folk art heirlooms in the basement of the college's Good Library, and is part of the Elkhart County Quilt Gardens Tour – an initiative by the county to attract more people to different parts of the region's Amish Country.

Goshen College community remembers Deanne Binde at campus prayer service May 30, 2008

    On the same stage that junior Deanne Binde played the funny and imaginative character Ellie in the fall mainstage play "Step on a Crack," the Goshen College community gathered on May 29 to remember Deanne and pray for her family. A tragic accident took the life of the talented student when she was traveling home to Lake Park, Minn., at the end of the school year, on May 22.

Local quilter wins creation made for 'Quilters' musical May 29, 2008

    During limited down times from rehearsals for the "Quilters" musical in May, Goshen College theater and music students and faculty also made a quilt of their own. Raffle tickets were sold during the performances on May 18, 19 and 20, and on the final night the winner was drawn and announced: Anne Raftree, a new resident of Goshen's Greencroft Retirement Community from southern Oregon, who is a long-time quilter herself.

Goshen College mourns with Chinese friends after Sichuan Province earthquake May 13, 2008

    Goshen College is mourning the loss of life and devastation from China's worst earthquake in three decades. The college has sent students to a university in Chengdu, China, for 25 years as part of its Study-Service Term program and was the first U.S. college to arrange an undergraduate exchange with the People's Republic of China in 1980.
