Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Job Summary:

Goshen College seeks applications for a one-year half-time position in Mathematics for the 2025-26 academic year. The person will teach 12 credit hours of 100-level mathematics courses and participate in related department and college level service responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach Math 105 Practical Math Concepts and Math 115 Applied Algebra during the fall
    semester.
  • Teach Math 105 Practical Math Concepts and Math 132 Elementary School Math Concepts II during the spring semester.
  • Hold regular office hours in person and/or online.
  • Participate in department and select college meetings.
  • Serve on the Teacher Education Advisory Council (TEAC).
  • Refresh the current student teaching assistant program for mathematics courses.
  • Be or become a member of an appropriate professional organization (e.g., The National
    Numeracy Network, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, or Mathematical Association of America) and stay informed and communicate with appropriate faculty about quantitative literacy, K-12 teacher education, and lower-level college mathematics courses and placement issues.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • A Student Teaching Assistant for each course being taught.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in mathematics or some related quantitative field, or a master’s degree in education and content courses in mathematics.
  • One year of teaching mathematics or another quantitative discipline at the high school or college level.
  • Supportive of the mission and core values of Goshen College.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s or doctoral degree in mathematics or mathematics education.
  • Completed courses in mathematics pedagogy.
  • Three or more years of teaching high school level algebra and geometry to college students.
  • Committed to the mission and core values of Goshen College.

Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:

Mostly inside/office conditions; Temperatures are usually moderate; Artificial lighting; Some exposure to dust and molds. Must use stairs or elevators to use toilet facilities. Using computers and other office equipment; moving around campus, inside and outside.
