Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing – Psychiatric & Mental Health

Position Summary:

Goshen College invites applications for a part-time (10 month contract with teaching load in the Spring semester) Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing. Primary responsibilities include teaching in the specialty area of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. Goshen College faculty serve on institution-wide committees, mentor and advise students, and participate in student recruitment for their respective program. Candidates must be interested in working closely with a diverse range of students, fellow faculty members, and admissions as part of a small, vibrant campus and community.

Essential Functions: (Core Job Responsibilities)

  • Provide content expertise in the specialty area of Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing
    • Serve as content expert
    • Schedule clinical experiences in this specialty area- both in-patient and out-patient
    • Oversight of nursing student clinical experiences
  • Prepare course syllabi and teach courses and evaluate student work, as assigned
    • Teach assigned courses using community-engaged learning practices
    • Review and revise course student learning outcomes to align with AACN Essentials for Nursing
    • Evaluate student learning in the clinical setting
  • Actively coach, mentor and guide students through advising, professional development, and role acquisition
  • Actively participate in departmental activities and committees
  • Actively participates in college wide activities and committees as assigned or required

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • May occasionally supervise senior nursing students in the role of teaching assistant
  • May occasionally supervise or work in tandem with adjunct faculty who are assigned clinical groups to manage

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in nursing required
  • Doctorate in nursing preferred

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • CPR
  • RN licenses required for the state of Indiana
  • Additional certifications in this specialty area are a plus

  • Excellent aptitude and ability in teaching and/or applied practice
  • Collaborative and creative approach to working relationships with colleagues, students, and community partners
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and ability to work effectively with others in a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Highly self-driven and resourceful
  • Previous expertise in the field of Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing
