Chicago Amish Country

This blog shares the experiences of Goshen College students participating in the Study-Service Term in Chicago and Elkhart County.

Over their immersive three-week term, students are exploring the theme of The Global Heartland, traveling from Goshen to Chicago and throughout northern Indiana to engage with people and places shaped by migration, ethnicity and religious diversity. From Pakistani diners and Swedish churches to Puerto Rican radio stations and Amish shops, the group is discovering how global stories are woven into the everyday fabric of communities across the region. Through conversations, service projects and cultural encounters, these reflections invite readers into the students’ journey of learning, listening and growing in understanding of both local and global connections.
