Shetler carried that drive to Goshen College, where he walked onto the basketball team. His playing career produced more opportunities to attempt late-game half-court shots than to become a central figure in the rotation, but Goshen gave him something far more consequential: opportunities behind a microphone. He completed college in three years and estimates he worked approximately 300 broadcasts during that time. He studied under professor and mentor Jason Samuel, gained experience through internships, and helped Goshen earn national recognition for its broadcasting program. During Shetler’s junior and final year, New York Knicks owner and Madison Square Garden executive James Dolan helped Goshen students travel to New York for national collegiate broadcasting awards. Shetler interviewed Dolan, and Goshen returned with multiple honors. Its station has been named the country’s best college radio station while competing against much larger institutions.
