At Goshen College, studying religion means exploring some of life’s most important questions — about meaning, purpose, justice, faith, and community. Rooted in the Anabaptist-Mennonite tradition, our programs in Bible and religion challenge you to think critically, engage globally, and live ethically.
Whether you’re preparing for graduate study, ministry, education, nonprofit work, or interfaith engagement, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of sacred texts, religious traditions, and the role of faith in today’s world. Courses emphasize thoughtful reflection, intercultural learning, and a commitment to peace and justice.
All students participate in Study-Service Term (SST) or take courses that explore religion across global contexts.
This program offers the opportunity to spend 11 weeks in the summer working in ministry with the supervision of a pastor. Visitation, worship leading, preaching, participating in congregational boards and committees, teaching classes, leading groups, outreach ministries, reading and reflection are all part of the experience.
Coursework and campus life reflect GC’s longstanding emphasis on peacebuilding, servant leadership, and social ethics.
The possible career choices are broad for every major. Recent Bible and religion graduates have gone on to become pastors, service workers, professors, hospital chaplains, teachers, journalists, public relations consultants, lawyers, farmers, computer analyst, musicians, artists, business executives, translators, and church administrators.
Bible and religion graduates have been accepted to some of the most prestigious graduate programs in the country, including Harvard Divinity School, University of Notre Dame, Emory University and University of Chicago.
The list below provides additional career options, but it is not exhaustive. Please note that some positions require additional education.
