Jeff Phillips will serve as the Director of Volleyball at Goshen College, and serve as the head coach of the men's and women's volleyball teams. Wyatt Bollinger '23 will be the Associate Head Coach for the men's program and Assistant Coach for the women's program.

Director of Athletics Dr. Erica Albertin announced Jon Bemisderfer as the next Director of Tennis at Goshen College. Bemisderfer has over 35 years of tennis coaching experience and was most recently at Indiana Wesleyan.

Mennonite Church USA Executive Board staff has named Olivia Krall '23 as archives coordinator for the MC USA Archives in Elkhart. Krall holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Goshen College, with minors in political studies and sociology.

Mennonite Church USA arranged for a sculpture designed and built by Emma Zuercher, a 2023 graduate of Goshen College from Apple Creek, Ohio, under the mentorship of John Mishler, sculptor and Goshen College associate professor of art.

Central District Conference of Mennonite Church USA has reinstated the ministerial credential of Keith Schrag 36 years after he relinquished it in 1987 during a ministerial meeting in which he was questioned for being a gay man.

Interim head baseball coach Brad Stoltzfus will no longer have the interim tag in front of his title. Goshen College Director of Athletics Dr. Erica Albertin announced the GC grad will be the next head baseball coach for the Maple Leafs, effective on August 1.

Mennonite Church USA has named Nancy Kauffmann, former board president of Dove’s Nest and longtime Mennonite church leader, as the interim denominational minister of Church Safety for MC USA’s Church Vitality office.

Owen Gingerich ’51 died on May 28. He received the Goshen College Culture for Service Alumni Award in 1991. Owen was a professor of astronomy and history of science emeritus at Harvard University, and also a senior astronomer emeritus at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.

Bryan Nataren Barahona, a physics major and math minor from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, was among the recipients of the new President’s Graduating Leader Award.

The Goshen College Athletic Department is excited to announce the addition of men's and women's bowling as the 15th and 16th teams, becoming the eighth Crossroads League school to add the sport. The teams will get underway during the 2024-25 academic year.

“It started on Feb. 24 last year,” said 38-year-old Yuri Polienok. He and his wife, Anastasia, also 38 – who at the time was pregnant with their daughter, Nicole – along with her 13-year-old son, Kirill, lived in Mariupol, Ukraine.

I feel honored to be in a unique place to speak to the overlap between womanist theology and Anabaptism. In my experience, 99.9% of Anabaptist-Mennonites are unaware of womanist theology beyond the basic idea that it focuses on Black women’s experience. And there is so much more to womanism than that.
