PRAMBANAN!

Jan 25 2026

A major highlight of our trip so far was visiting the famous Prambanan, a UNESCO world heritage site and the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. We toured the temple complex, and climbed many stairs to greet the Hindu pantheon of goddesses and gods housed in each Candi.

In the evening, we returned to Prambanan for an excellent performance of the Ramayana ballet, based on the sacred Hindu text and epic story. Set to traditional gamelan music, the ballet has been performed since 1961, inaugurated by Indonesia’s first president Sukarno as a cultural symbol and expression of distinctly Indonesian art and dance.
