Meet the leaders: Ecuador Summer SST 2026

Apr 16 2026

Welcome!

We are Hillary Harder and Micah Detweiler, and we are excited to have the opportunity to lead the Ecuador SST unit in summer 2026!

About us

Hillary is the program director for the Community School of the Arts at Goshen College, which offers music programs for children, youth, and community members of all ages. Hillary also teaches several classes at GC, including Building Community Through Music and Music with United Sound. Micah is the adjunct professor of percussion at GC, teaching percussion lessons and directing the steel band. As musicians and music educators, we both love to delve into the artistic and musical landscapes of new communities, and particularly the social, historical, and cultural contexts around them. We previously led the 2025 May term SST unit in Selma, Alabama working with Mennonite Disaster Service and exploring the intersection of racial justice and environmental justice.

Join us!

We are thrilled to be leading the summer 2026 SST unit in Ecuador.  During our time as GC students, we both found SST to be one of our most formative learning experiences  – Hillary in Nicaragua and Micah in Senegal.

We are excited to build relationships among the GC group and with local community partners, joining together to learn about the rich history and culture of Ecuador – particularly delving into the themes of indigenous rights, sustainability, and globalization. We look forward to having you follow along with our journey!
