Goshen College Student Documentary Selected in Oscar-Qualifying Film Festival

Jun 25 2026

The newest documentary from Goshen College’s Film Production program, “Cora Dale: A Rediscovered Harmony,” has been selected as an official entry in the Indy Shorts Film Festival in Indianapolis this July.

Now in its ninth year, the Academy Award-qualifying festival is a six-day celebration of short films known for its summer atmosphere, $35,000 in cash prizes and outdoor screenings. More than 300 filmmakers take part in Q&A sessions following each program. This year’s festival runs July 21-26.

“Cora Dale: A Rediscovered Harmony” tells the story of Cora Dale, an early 20th-century composer and pianist whose promising career was derailed by mental illness, nearly erasing her musical legacy from history. Decades later, her former home in Goshen, Ind., has been transformed into a center for mental wellness, ensuring that her story and music endure.

The short documentary was produced by senior Goshen College film production majors Isabel Massud, of São Paulo, Brazil, and Silas Immanuel, of New Delhi, India, with Kyle Hufford, professor of communication, serving as executive producer.

“Being an official selection in the Indy Shorts Film Festival is huge for our program and a testament to the professional-level work our students are doing,” Hufford said. “Only 4% of entries are selected for this festival, so we are extremely honored to be screening alongside some of the best short films in the country.”

“Cora Dale: A Rediscovered Harmony” will screen as part of the Indiana Spotlight block on July 23 at 5 p.m. and July 26 at 2:30 p.m., both at the Indy Art Center, with a filmmaker Q&A following each screening. Tickets and more information are available at heartlandfilm.org/events/indyshorts.
