Getting to Know Yogyakarta

Jan 23 2026

On SST Indonesia ’26, students spent their first few days getting to know Yogyakarta: learning to use various transportation systems, trying new foods, exploring new places, and getting acquainted with the universities where they will learn from lecturers and language instructors.

We walked around the neighborhood surrounding Rumah Goshen:

Learned to use GoRide, motorcycle taxis and public buses.

Were given a helpful safety orientation by our Indonesian partners:

Visited an open air market where students completed a journal assignment using their 5 senses to experience new things while suspending judgment.

We ate amazing food:

And celebrated a special 5-year-old’s birthday with a pool party.

Overall a great first weekend and orientation to Indonesia SST ‘26.
