A Day of Rest

May 08 2023

Finally, we made it! We have waited for a much-needed break from our busy days. We started our day attending Layton Community Baptist Church. Goshen College has been attending this church for about forty years tracing back to when Professor Jonathon Roth brought the marine biology course to Layton. Currently we still have a strong relationship with the church and hope to continue that relationship. The church was very welcoming and excited to see Goshen College back. It has been challenging to maintain our connection to the Layton community in the past few years due to Covid-19 restrictions and not being able to stay at our marine station during renovations (which are almost done :)).

After the church service, we went out to eat at Islamorada Fish Company. It happened to be right next to a Bass Pro Shop where students could browse and buy items. Next, we went out to buy groceries for the rest of the week. After all of this, we had time to relax in our cottages. We still have to continue to think about our marine biology research projects, so I guess we never do get an actual break. I’m excited to see what everyone’s ideas will be for their projects.
