Visit to Magarita Tejada Foundation School/ Migration Presentation

On Friday morning (May 13th), we visited Margarita Tejada Foundation which is a school primarily for students with Down Syndrome. After a brief tour of the school, Goshen College students were split up into different classrooms to assist the teachers and interact with students. There were many different activities that we got to participate in including: painting, sports, makeovers, etc.

The classroom that I was placed in was having a career day. Students and teachers were dressed as different vocations and the students got to rotate through different stations of activities related to a specific career. I got to assist with the artist station where we painted monsters using balloons instead of paintbrushes.

Friday afternoon, we listened to a presentation by Sarah Wyngaarden from MCC Guatemala/ El Salvador. She taught us about migration theory (how and why people choose to migrate or not to migrate) as well as contextualized the issues of migration in both Guatemala and the U.S.
