Returning to Senegal

In early April, the Yoder Lind family returned to Senegal. We came early to prepare for this summer’s Goshen College semester of global engagement in the land of Teranga –a Wolof word roughly translated as hospitality but with shades of meaning that include respect, community and sharing. Over several weeks we worked closely with our team here in Senegal to plan lectures, homestays, and service assignments. Our team includes old friends like Yacine Diatta who has worked with Goshen College since 2010 and Awa Thiandoum as well as new friends like Adama Sene, our main coordinator, and his family. During this time, we prepared for students but also reacclimated to the climate and culture of this warm and welcoming country. We ate good food together with old friends and reconnected with the local community through birthday parties and evening visits.
