This blog shares the experiences of Goshen College students participating in the Study-Service Term: U.S. South — Freedom Summer.

Over three immersive weeks, students are traveling through the American South to explore the history and legacy of the Civil Rights Movement, visiting pivotal sites like the National Civil Rights Museum, the King Center, the Equal Justice Initiative and places in the Mississippi Delta. Along the way, they are engaging with community leaders, learning about collective action and the role of art and music in movements for justice, and reflecting on how history continues to shape conversations about race, class and equality today. Through these reflections, readers are invited into the moments that are shaping students’ understanding of struggle, resilience and purpose as they connect past and present in meaningful and lasting ways
