91.1 The Globe won five national honors and was nominated for 15 at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s 87th annual convention in New York City on Feb. 21.

Nine students at The Globe traveled with Jason Samuel, station manager, to the convention, where they connected with other broadcasting students from across the nation, as well as attend numerous sessions led by industry professionals. These sessions included a keynote address by Helen Little, an on-air personality at IHeartMedia. The weekend culminated in the awards ceremony.

“It was awesome to be named the best college radio station (under 10,000 students),” said Eduardo Alvarez-Barrera, a junior broadcasting major from Goshen and the student station manager at The Globe. “I know we’ve worked hard as a team and can now see it pay off … I will never forget that feeling of walking up to receive this award.”

Liliana Herrera, a senior broadcasting major from Santa Clarita, Calif., and the student executive producer of Globe TV, said, “To win two solo national awards is honestly the cherry on top for my career at The Globe.” She continued, “It was an amazing feeling with Jason being there. He’s pushed me these last four years and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.”
