Communication students pose with their awards at the 2026 IASB reception.

On Saturday, March 28, Goshen College was named Radio School of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) for the eighth consecutive year and the 12th time in the award’s 21-year history. No other school has won the title more times since the competition began in 2005.

Thirteen students traveled to Indianapolis for the annual IASB luncheon and awards ceremony, held at the Colts’ Gridiron Hall at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center. The delegation collected 24 awards, including four first-place honors. Students also connected with industry professionals at the Indiana Broadcasters Association’s spring career fair.

The first-place finishes included Eduardo Alvarez-Barrera and Liliana Herrera winning the radio talk show category; Herrera winning the radio newscast; Isabel Massud and Silas Immanuel taking first for in-depth video; and Ryan Carrillo claiming first in corporate video.

“It’s an honor to receive this award, for me and the entire staff,” said Eduardo Alvarez-Barrera, junior broadcasting major and student station manager. “It’s great to continue The Globe’s tradition of success at IASB.”

GC also finished second in the News division — just one point behind Ball State University — and second in the Video division behind Huntington University, placing fourth in Sports.

“Year after year it doesn’t get any easier, but it doesn’t get any less sweet,” said Jason Samuel, station manager at 91.1 The Globe. “Our students just find new ways of telling stories — using their creativity, their talent and their cooperation with one another to create top-level content.”

The awards recognize student work across Goshen College’s Communication Department co-curricular programs: 91.1 The Globe, GlobeTV, and video production company FiveCore Media.
