Day One: The Journey Begins!

Vox Profundi’s choir tour got off to a great start at 5:45am this morning with zero positive Covid tests! We departed from the music center at 6:30am en route for Plains Mennonite Church in Pennsylvania. The bus was very quiet until our first stop at 10am. It was a routine bathroom and snack break that was capped off by setting a group record for our attendance count off with a time of 14.71 seconds. Our next stop was lunch which had more choices than we could have hoped for. From the more extravagant spots like Arby’s and Subway, to the lowest of the lows in Long John Silvers we truly had it all.

After lunch a rousing Dungeons and Dragons game broke out on the bus. “It was huge and chaotic, but fun to build rapport with people we didn’t know as well,” said senior second tenor and Dungeon Master Ben Reichenbach. My favorite part of the trip was playing the game “Don’t let the pink fuzzy ball that Jonathon Weaver won from a crane machine at a gas station touch the ground”. The goal of the game was simple. We had to hit the ball to one another all the way down the bus and then back to the start. If the ball hit the floor we started over. Surprisingly our hand eye coordination on the bus was less than stellar and this took us 30 minutes to achieve. We ended the bus ride by watching the masterpiece that is “National Treasure”, and some impromptu stand up comedy by morale officer Dontaye Albert. 

We arrived at Plains Mennonite Church at 6:00pm where we were treated to an amazing dinner of spaghetti and meatballs. I learned over dessert that Scott’s favorite type of cookie is oatmeal raisin. This did not come as a surprise to me as anyone that knows Scott would say he gives off massive oatmeal raisin vibes. After dinner we rehearsed a few of our songs for our performance tomorrow morning at Plains Mennonite. Overall a great first day of tour and I can’t wait to see what happens in the coming days!
