Major: Marine Biology, Sustainable Food Systems
Why did you choose Goshen?
I chose Goshen mostly because of my major, marine biology. A family friend told me about Goshen and that I should check it out because they knew that I was interested in that field because they have a facility down in Florida [J.N. Roth Marine Biology Station] that we can go to. After looking into it and coming to visit the campus I decided that I wanted to come and so I applied.
Why did you choose your major?
I’ve always been interested and in love with the ocean and water in general. It’s always been fascinating to me and I didn’t really have another field that I was interested in like that. But I actually came into my first year undecided because I wasn’t 100% sure that I wanted to major in marine biology. It was around Christmas time of year one that I declared my major as marine biology. Then around Thanksgiving of year two I added my second major, sustainable food systems.
What career are you interested in pursuing?
I still am not sure what career I am interested in pursuing. As I’m getting further into my academics my ideas and goals for my later life keep changing. Right now I think it would be super cool to be a marine researcher somewhere, or maybe work in the aquaculture industry, trying to make it more sustainable..
What is a valuable experience that you have had at Goshen?
A valuable experience that I’ve had here at Goshen College is when we got sent home and had to transition to online learning at the end of my first year. I learned just how much I value in-person learning and how hands-on all of the classes are since they’re so small.
