Vox Profundi (formerly the Goshen College Men’s Chorus), will present a virtual performance from the 2020-21 season, “How Can I keep From Singing?” The pre-recorded performance will be livestreamed June 1, at 7:30 p.m. at gcmusiccenter.org/live

Vox Profundi originally planned to go on tour in person, but had to change their plans because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Like every choral group across the globe, we have faced a myriad of challenges during this global pandemic, when our primary mode of sharing our art was deemed dangerous,” said Scott Hochstetler, professor of music. “And yet, we found a way to sing.”

“The music we share in this video is a combination of choral selections recorded in Sauder  Concert Hall without an audience and at Camp Friedenswald, where we spent a weekend experiencing camaraderie as an ensemble,” Hochstetler said.

“How Can I Keep From Singing?” includes themes of justice, service, love, hope and faith, Hochstetler said.

“We trust that our choral offerings will soothe your soul  in this time of suffering and of longing for human connection,” Hochstetler said.

“Whether it’s the stirring anthem of ‘Lift every voice and sing’ in solidarity with our Black sisters and brothers, or the choral benediction ‘God Be With You Till We Meet Again’ anticipation of that glorious time when we can join together in person for fellowship and worship, we hope the music and texts speak deeply and offer healing to you in this turbulent time.”
