Church Chapel, Koinonia Room
The Institute for the Study of Global Anabaptism at Goshen College invites you to join us for a morning of reflection on the intersections of personal conviction and state power with Dr. Duane Stoltzfus. Dr. Stoltzfus will reflect on the process of researching two books focused on the historical realities of being pacifist in the United States, from the perspective of religious minorities during World War I and foreign nationals who were denied citizenship in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s because of their refusal to bear arms. Dr. Stoltzfus is the author of Pacifists in Chains: The Persecution of Hutterites During the Great War and professor of communication at Goshen College.
Light refreshments will be served at 9:00 am, with the formal program from 9:30-10:30 am. Following the presentation, participants are invited to visit the current museum exhibit, “Hutterite Life (from 1528): Communal Anabaptists,” in the gallery of Good Library. Thanks to the Public Programming Committee of the MHL/ISGA for organizing this event.
