2022 Peace Play: The Fledgling by Brigid Amos
Event: Homecoming Peace Play – The Fledgling by Brigid Amos
Date/Time: October 7 @ 8:00 PM, October 8 @ 4:00 PM, October 9 @ 2:00 PM
Location: Umble Center, Goshen College Campus
Cost: $6 general admission, GC students & employees free
As part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities, playwright Brigid Amos will be on campus from Lincoln, Nebraska to see her winning play come to life on the Umble stage, directed by Goshen College alumna Shianne Harrison. The Fledgling follows a dog, a cat and a baby bird uneasily sharing space on a fire escape.
“This play explores the seductive nature of xenophobia and the power of empathy to combat it,” said Amos.
A brief conversation will follow all three performances. A reception for Ms. Amos will be held after the Friday evening performance. She will offer a playwriting workshop to the public as well as GC students on Saturday, October 8 at 10:00 AM. Tickets can also be purchased at goshen.edu/tickets or at the theater beginning one hour before show time.
The show brings Goshen College’s signature Peace Play Competition back onto its proper biennial schedule with a charming world premiere fable. Contestants submit an unproduced, one act play exploring the theme of peace. Plays are picked blind, meaning the search committee does not see the name of the author. The winning play is then produced through the Goshen College theater department. First and second place playwrights also receive a monetary award.
