Shannan Martin, a best-selling writer and speaker from Goshen, will be the keynote speaker at Goshen College’s 128th commencement ceremony with her speech, “Two Buckets.” The ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 3 p.m. in the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center.
Tickets are required for the event, and have been distributed to graduates. The event itself, and the baccalaureate celebration the night before, will be livestreamed.

As a speaker and writer, Shannan Martin discovered her voice in the country and slowly found her story — one of community, complexity and faith that thrives in ordinary, overlooked places — right here in Goshen. She believes beauty and justice intersect at street-level and strives to live with “neighbor” as an embodied part of her spiritual DNA. For over six years, Shannan has worked as a cook at The Window, a local non-profit dedicated to feeding this community. In her free time, Shannan enjoys gardening, thrifting, watching the sky and following the news.
Martin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bethel University (Mishawaka). After early careers in politics, she moved with her family from Wakarusa, Ind. to the north side of Goshen. Martin is the best-selling author of four books, including Start with Hello, The Ministry of Ordinary Places, and her brand-new release, Counterweights: An Essential Practice for Holding Hope in a Heavy World. You can find her on Instagram or through her top-ranked Substack, The Soup.
