As vice president for finance, Gunawan will oversee the college’s financial operations and provide strategic leadership to ensure long-term institutional sustainability.

“I am thrilled to welcome Martin to our leadership team as we continue strengthening our financial stewardship, budgeting practices and long-range planning in support of our mission and vision,” Stoltzfus said. “Martin is grounded in the global Anabaptist Church, including Anabaptist education, and is strongly aligned with our mission. I look forward to how he will bring financial strategy excellence to Goshen College.”

Since 2021, Gunawan has served as senior executive of operations at Mennonite Mission Network (MMN), the mission agency of Mennonite Church USA headquartered in Elkhart. In that role, he provides executive oversight for finance, human resources, information technology and facilities. Prior to joining MMN, he spent 13 years at Kem Krest Corporation in Elkhart, working in progressively complex supply chain and financial analyst roles.

Gunawan graduated with an associate’s degree from Hesston (Kansas) College in 2002, a bachelor’s degree from Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas, in 2005 and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana University-South Bend in 2008 with a focus in finance and management.

Gunawan grew up in Central Java, Indonesia, within a long-standing and thriving Anabaptist faith community, Gereja Kristen Muria Indonesia Ebenezer Church, which he remains connected with. He and his spouse, Chika Sunoto, a 2006 Goshen College graduate, live in Goshen, attend Maple City Chapel, and have three children.
