As a psychology major or minor at Goshen College, you’ll explore the complexities of human thought, emotion and behavior through a holistic lens. You’ll examine how personal experience, biology, environment and culture interact to shape individuals and communities. Whether you’re interested in counseling, education, mental health, social work or research, psychology at Goshen will give you the skills and perspective to thrive in any people-centered field.
Our small class sizes and hands-on learning approach ensure that you won’t just study psychology—you’ll apply it. You’ll have opportunities to conduct original research, present at conferences and complete internships that build your resume and connect classroom learning to real-world settings.
Graduates have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in psychology, counseling, education, social work, business, and public health.

The psychology major and minor provide a flexible framework to explore areas such as developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, counseling, and research methods.
You’ll engage in research, community projects, and internships throughout your program. Psychology majors frequently intern with local schools, counseling centers, health organizations, or advocacy groups. You’ll also have the chance to conduct your own research and present findings at the Maple Scholars Summer Research Symposium and other academic conferences.
Psychology students are eligible for general academic scholarships and may also apply for program-specific awards through the social work or science departments, depending on their area of focus.
Students have access to the Good Library and can use college-supported software for data analysis and survey development.
